Homewood, AL – A lockdown has ended at Samford University campus, where a man was seen on campus with a gun.
The lockdown was called just after 5 a.m. Friday after a security officer confronted a suspicious man at a parking deck near Robinson Hall on the campus in suburban Birmingham.
Authorities say the man pointed a gun at the officer and fled toward Homewood.
University officials said they kept the lockdown on as a precaution even after they believed the man had fled.
The university send e-mail and text messages to students. Security officers directed students and faculty who did not receive the messages to the south parking lot.
Samford President Andrew Westmoreland says dorms and campus buildings were searched, but nothing unusual was found.
