AEA Rallies Support For Reed After Name Removed From Acadome

Montgomery, AL – The head of the Alabama Education Association is encouraging teachers across the state to work to get Joe Reed's name back on the basketball arena at Reed's alma mater, Alabama State University.

AEA Executive Secretary Paul Hubbert has written a letter to AEA members saying the decision to remove Reed's name from Alabama State's Acadome was childish and vindictive. Hubbert encouraged AEA members to attend a meeting of concerned citizens Tuesday night at a Montgomery church. Reed is the associate executive secretary of AEA.

ASU trustees ordered Reed's name taken off the arena last week. The action occurred after Reed, who's a trustee, sued to stop the board's plan to pay $289,000 to outgoing President Joe Lee. A Montgomery judge issued a temporary restraining order in the lawsuit Friday and ordered mediation.
