Alligator Hunting Dates Set For August

By Associated Press

Mobile AL – State conservation officials have set dates for Alabama's third regulated alligator hunting season.

The season will be held Aug. 15-18, and Aug. 22-25 in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta and Aug. 21-24 for Lake Eufaula, which was included last year for the first time. At Eufaula, hunters landed a 675-pound alligator, the season's largest.

Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley said expanding the hunts to two locations last year helped thin out the increasing gator population in Alabama.

Almost 1,300 hunters registered for the 2007 hunts with 140 being selected to participate.

Hunters may register online until July 14 at http://www.outdooralabama.com.
