Birmingham AL – The mother of an inmate convicted of murdering two Alabama police officers has filed suit over his death in a state prison.
Mary Barksdale claimed in a federal lawsuit filed Monday that son Farron Barksdale died because of a mix of excessive heat and anti-psychotic medicine he was given at Kilby prison near Montgomery. She's asking for an unspecified amount of money.
The state prison system has yet to respond to the lawsuit. But it has previously defended it's handling of Barksdale.
The 32-year-old Barksdale was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two Athens police officers in 2004. An autopsy found that heat played a role in his death last August a few days after he arrived at Kilby prison.
