Riley Tells Siegelman He Had Nothing To Do With Probe

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley says he told former Gov. Don Siegelman in person that he had nothing to do with the corruption probe of the Siegelman administration.

Riley told The Tuscaloosa News Wednesday that the face-to-face meeting occurred prior to Siegelman's 2006 trial when Siegelman was in Montgomery for induction ceremonies for the Alabama Academy of Honor.

Riley said he told Siegelman there was nothing Riley had ever done or Riley family members had done to cause Siegelman harm.

Siegelman was convicted in June 2006 of bribery and other charges. He has contended the probe and prosecution was influenced by Republican political operatives.
