Students, Workers Back at Work After Chemical Exposure

By Associated Press

Boaz, AL – Several student workers and two maintenance employees at Snead State Community College were back at work Tuesday after they came in contact with a possibly hazardous chemical.

Boaz fire Chief Olen Morrison said the six students were cleaning a basement area under the school's cafeteria Monday when they encountered a white powder that was leaking from a rusted container.

The Boaz Fire Department initiated a hazardous chemical response and those involved were sent to Marshall Medical Center South for precautionary decontamination.

The students were sent home but one who had a minor panic attack and developed a slight rash on his arm was treated.

He was told to take Tuesday off from work as a precaution.
