Montgomery, AL – Unemployed Alabamians might be eligible for up to 13 more weeks of unemployment compensation.
Alabama Department of Industrial Relations director Tom Surtees said Thursday the extra time stems from the federal Supplemental Appropriations Act. He said Gov. Bob Riley has signed an agreement for the state to carry out provisions of the act.
Unemployed Alabamians who used up regular state benefits on or after May 1, 2007 could be eligible.
The state began mailing information on filing for benefits to potentially eligible workers on Wednesday. The payments can start for this week.
