Montgomery, AL – Firefighters from Alabama are headed to California to help crews trying to control wildfires that have burned nearly 840,000 acres since mid-June.
The Alabama Forestry Commission announced Tuesday it is sending 11 firefighters. The U.S. Forest Service is sending nine firefighters from Alabama. The National Park Service and the Pelham Fire Department are each sending one person.
The firefighters are headed first to Tampa, Fla., where they will meet other fire crews before flying west on Thursday.
