Mississippi Exec To Head UAB Health System

Birmingham, AL – A Mississippi health care executive will take over as the new chief executive officer of the UAB Health System in Birmingham.

The board at the University of Alabama in Birmingham on Friday named William Ferniany to take over the UAB system starting next month. The 57-year-old Mobile native is currently an associate vice chancellor and chief executive at University of Mississippi Health Care.

Ferniany previously worked at UAB Hospital for four years ending in 1992. He was an associate administrator and has two advanced degrees from the university.

Ferniany replaces Dr. Ray Watts, who has served as interim chief executive since January. Watts replaced David Hoidal, who resigned in December.
