Montgomery, AL – Alabama's unemployment rate rose in July to 5.1 percent.
State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees said the July jobless figure was higher than June's 4.7 percent rate.
The national jobless rate was 5.7 percent.
Surtees said the lowest county unemployment rate were in Shelby with 3.7 percent, Madison at 4.1 percent, Baldwin at 4.3 percent and Blount and Limestone with 4.5 percent.
The highest county rates were Chambers at 14.4 percent, Wilcox at 13.3 percent, and Perry at 11.9 percent and Dallas with 11.3 percent.
