Ala. Drought Situation Improves

Birmingham, AL – The drought situation in Alabama is slowly improving. That's the latest assessment from the U.S Drought Monitor Survey.

Still, less than half of the state is drought free - about 53 percent of Alabama is under some stage of drought.

The report, issued Thursday, said northeast Alabama benefited from wetter conditions last week allowing the region to be downgraded in drought severity. However the area remains parched to some degree as we head into the driest month of the year.

The Monitor said South Carolina has the only area in the Southeast rated D-4 or worst drought conditions.
