Montgomery, AL – The state school board has approved a reduction in force policy for the two-year college system, but officials hope they won't have to use it.
It's the system's first policy setting criteria that will be used in the event of layoffs.
School board members unanimously passed the policy at their monthly meeting Thursday but not without some objections.
The Alabama Education Association says the policy is out of sync with the state's Fair Dismissal Act because it defines full-time employees differently.
AEA spokeswoman Mary Bruce Ogles said that could cause some problems if the policy is ever used.
