Bevill State Player Accuses Coach of Harsh Punishment

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – An investigation has been opened on a Bevill State Community college baseball player's claim that his coach forced to him to be battered by fastballs to punish him for missing practice and lying.

Shawn Rider, a student at Bevill State's Sumiton campus, told police that coach Ed Langham forced him to wear catcher's gear, put his hands behind his back and kneel in front of a pitching machine that hurled fastballs at him.

His mother said she saw pictures of multiple bruises on his upper body and he underwent an MRI on Monday.

Sumiton police and the school are looking into the claims and no action has been taken against Langham.
