By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Kelley Parris-Barnes has been named the new director of the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Gov. Bob Riley announced the appointment of Parris-Barnes Wednesday. She will replace retiring director Marian Loftin.

The department plans and supervises state programs aimed at preventing abuse and neglect of children.

Parris-Barnes currently serves as the executive director of the West Alabama Mental Health Center in Demopolis. She is also co-chair of the health committee of the Alabama Rural Action Commission.

She has served on the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence substance abuse committee and as chair for the state DHR Quality Assurance Committee.
