Dallas County Commission Rejects Renaming Proposal

Selma, AL – Dallas County commissioners have rejected a proposal to rename the county courthouse for the late J.L. Chestnut.

Proponents had asked the commission to rename the building after Chestnut who was the city's first black attorney. Wednesday's vote was 3-2.

Chestnut, a prominent civil rights attorney, died Sept. 30 at age 77.
