Tuscaloosa, AL – Four people have survived the crash of a single-engine plane that went down in woods near the Tuscaloosa County Airport.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Andy Norris said the plane attempted to land for fuel on a trip from Illinois to Florida when it crashed about 2 p.m. Thursday.

He said the four people aboard the plane received non-life-threatening injuries. He said one passenger had called 911 from a cell phone, bringing a helicopter to the rescue.

The injured were treated at DCH Regional Medical Center. Their names were not immediately released.

The National Transportation Safety Board sent investigators to the scene. Cause of the crash was not immediately known.
