Shaw: No Recount Likely

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Greg Shaw's Republican campaign for the Alabama Supreme Court says provisional ballots counted throughout the state Wednesday indicate he will win without an automatic recount.

Spokesman Josh Cooper said Shaw's Democratic opponent, Deborah Bell Paseur, had picked up only about 300 votes with 54 of Alabama's 67 counties finished counting. That was far short of the number needed to force a recount in a race Shaw led by more than 12,800 votes.

The provisional ballots were cast by voters who didn't bring an ID to the polls or whose correct voting precinct was in question. The validated ballots are being added to the unofficial tally from Nov. 4.

Paseur's campaign manager, Marion Steinfels, said she is awaiting a complete official count.
