Alabama Guard Unit Returning Home for Thanksgiving

By Associated Press

Tallassee, AL – Members of the Alabama Army National Guard's 158th Maintenance Co. from Tallassee and Tuskegee will be headed home from training before being deployed to Iraq.

The unit left Tallassee Nov. 3 for training in Indiana and had been scheduled to spend Thanksgiving in Indiana. But donors provided $20,000 to charter five buses to return the unit home from Camp Atterbury for Thanksgiving. The donations included $10,000 from the Alabama Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The president of the 158th Family Group, Kathy Martin, says the families are grateful they will be together again before the unit heads to Iraq in December.
