Ala. Congressman Being Vetted For Obama Post

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama is being vetted for an undisclosed position in president-elect Barack Obama's administration.

But Davis, a three-term Democrat from Birmingham, has said repeatedly that he does not expect to work in the administration.

He is now acknowledging that Obama's transition team approached him several weeks ago and asked if he would undergo a background check. Davis' office declined to name the position being considered and said he still does not expect to be selected.

Davis, who attended Harvard Law School with Obama, was mentioned early as a candidate for attorney general. Obama has since picked Eric Holder for that post, although the nomination could still run into opposition.

Obama has yet to select several other Cabinet positions, including for education, labor and housing.
