Montgomery, AL – Legislation will be introduced in the upcoming session of the Alabama Legislature to authorize voters overseas to cast ballots using the Internet.
Secretary of State Beth Chapman said Monday she would push for a bill that allows electronic voting by military personnel and others living overseas. Chapman made the statement after hearing a presentation on a Florida Panhandle county that allowed voters in three locations overseas to cast ballots in the 2008 general election.
The presentation was made to a panel that advises Chapman on military voting issues.
The supervisor of elections in Okaloosa County, Fla., Pat Hollarn, said a total of 93 votes were cast using the Internet by Okaloosa County voters in Japan, Germany and England.
