Montgomery, AL – Some employees at the Alabama Department of Archives and History have been told the department may be forced to layoff workers as a result of state budget cuts.
Archives and History Director Ed Bridges said Monday he and other state department heads have been asked to come up with a plan for how they will cut their budgets because of the economic slowdown.
Gov. Bob Riley said last week that he would use his authority as governor to make selective cuts and reduce overall spending from the state's General Fund by 10 percent.
The executive director of the Alabama State Employees Association, Mac McArthur, said he doesn't see how the budget cuts can be made without some state workers losing their jobs.
