9 Candidates Qualify For Ala. Senate Special Election

Montgomery, AL – Three Democrats and six Republicans signed up before Tuesday's deadline to run for the state Senate seat vacated by Democrat Parker Griffith of Huntsville when he went to Congress.

The state Democratic Party said state Rep. Laura Hall of Huntsville, Huntsville attorney Sherryl Snodgrass Caffey and Alabama A&M University graduate student Anthony Daniels signed up for the Democratic primary in Senate District 7.

The state Republican Party said those who signed up were Huntsville attorney Sam Givhan, Huntsville attorney Mary Scott Hunter, Meridianville businessman Allan Rhodes, Huntsville restaurant owner Paul Sanford, Peter Wright of Huntsville and Roger Richardson, who's an economic development specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in Huntsville.

Senate District 7 covers part of Madison County. The party primaries will be on March 3.
