Huntsville, AL – Flooding in parts of north Alabama has prompted emergency officials to warn motorists to use caution when approaching water-covered roads.
Flood warnings were in effect Tuesday for Morgan, Marshall, Jackson and DeKalb counties.
Marshall County Emergency Management Agency director Anita McBurnett said several bridges and roads were closed in the area after about five inches of rain fell, with creeks and streams brimming over.
She said there had been no reports of people being stranded and there had not been an inordinate amount of car accidents.
Jim Pockrus of the Madison County EMA said there has been minor flooding in that county and the rainfall was expected to end by midnight.
He said the safety message for drivers who encounter flooded roads is simple: ``Turn around, don't drown.''
