Birmingham, AL – The trial of state Sen. E.B. McClain and the Rev. Samuel Pettagrue resumes Tuesday in federal court in Birmingham, with the defense presenting its side of the case.
Prosecutors wrapped up their witnesses Friday when the trial ended its first week. An FBI agent testified that Pettagrue ran a nonprofit foundation that got more than $758,000 from the state and then paid the state senator nearly $307,000.
The senator and the minister from Jefferson County are accused of bribery, conspiracy and mail fraud.
