Former Gov. Hunt Dead at 75

By Associated Press

Montgomery AL – Alabama's first Republican governor since Reconstruction, Guy Hunt, has died in Birmingham. He was 75.

Family spokesman Mark McDaniel says Hunt died at 2:55 p.m. Friday at Trinity Medical Center.

Hunt had suffered from lung cancer for several years. He was in a weak condition when he had gall bladder surgery in late November and he never recovered.

Hunt was a Primitive Baptist preacher and farmer from Holly Pond when he was first elected in 1986.
