AG Asks Supreme Court To Allow Ala. Execution

Mobile, AL – Alabama prosecutors have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to lift an appeals court order blocking the March 19 execution of Phillip Hallford in the 1986 shooting death of his daughter's 16-year-old boyfriend.

The state attorney general's office filed its emergency request Monday.

The Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals earlier denied the state's bid to lift the stay tge court granted Hallford on Feb. 11. The appeals court gave no explanation for its decision.

Hallford's lethal injection is one of six scheduled in Alabama this year - one in each of the first six months in a state that had no executions last year. Two have been carried out.
