Ala. Gets $127 Million For Energy Grants

Montgomery, AL – The Obama administration is doling out dollars to states to fund weatherization and energy efficiency grants.

Alabama's share is more than $127 million.

The $127.3 million initiative, announced Thursday, is part of the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The funding includes $71.8 million in home weatherization funding for low-income families in Alabama and $55.5 million for the state energy program.

The weatherization program will allow an average investment of up to $6,500 per home in energy efficiency upgrades.

The program is available for families making up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
