Funeral, Wake Planned for Bluesman King

By Associated Press

Aliceville, AL – A wake and funeral are planned this weekend for Alabama blues artist Willie King, who died Sunday at the age of 65.

A wake is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Saturday at King's home in the Old Memphis community in Pickens County. His funeral is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Aliceville City Hall.

The Alabama Blues Project has set up a memorial fund to help with funeral expenses.

King was raised by sharecroppers in west Alabama. But he used his guitar and his voice to go from backwoods juke joints to the largest blues music festivals in America and Europe.
