Crowded Field For Ala. Senate Special Election

Montgomery, AL – Eight Democrats, but no Republicans, signed up for the special election to fill the vacancy in Alabama Senate District 19 in Jefferson County.

The state Democratic Party announced that candidates who signed up by Friday's deadline were: Bessemer City Council member Louise Alexander, state Rep. Merika Coleman of Birmingham, state Rep. Priscilla Dunn of Bessemer, Rep. Rod Scott of Fairfield, Lawrence McAdory of Bessemer former state Rep. Eric Major of Fairfield, Madilyn Southern of Fairfield, and Nathan Reed of Ensley.

The state Republican Party announced no one signed up.

The primary election will be May 12.

The office became vacant when former Sen. E.B. McClain, a Democrat from Midfield, was convicted on corruption charges in January.
