High Court Refuses To Lift Stay Of Ala. Execution

Atmore, AL – An Alabama death row inmate who had been scheduled for lethal injection next week has won a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that leaves in place a stay of the execution.

The high court on Friday turned back a request by Alabama's attorney general to lift the stay that had been granted for 61-year-old Phillip Hallford.

Hallford was convicted in Dale County for the 1986 shooting death of his 15-year-old daughter's boyfriend, 16-year-old Charles Eddie Shannon. He has been on death row at Holman Prison for about 22 years.
