Gov. Adds Counties To Emergency Declaration

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley has added seven Alabama counties to an emergency declaration listing areas facing major problems because of severe weather and flooding over the past week.

Counties added to the list Friday by the governor are Autauga, Bullock, Choctaw, Pike, Marengo, Perry and Wilcox.

The governor's action authnorizes the Alabama Emergency Management Agency to assist communites, make damage assessments and seek state and federal assistance for areas affected by the storms. The governor had earlier declared a state of emergency for Baldwin, Clarke, Covington, Coffee, Crenshaw, Dale, Elmore, Geneva, Houston, Henry and Washington counties.

Storms causing severe weather and flooding have have rolled across Alabama since last weekend.
