DHR Won't Make Cuts To Child Care Subsity Program

Montgomery, AL – Officials with the Alabama Department of Human Resources say they will not make reductions to a program that subsidizes day care costs for low income parents.

DHR had planned to lower the income eligibility requirements for the program beginning May 1 because of state budget cuts. But DHR Commissioner Nancy Buckner said Friday the department will receive federal stimulus money that will allow the program to be fully funded.

More than 27,000 Alabama children receive day care through the program.

Buckner said the subsidy program allows low income parents to continue to work while their children receive day care.
