Montgomery, AL – A revised state education budget would increase spending on schools and colleges and would save many jobs in K-12 schools.
The chairman of the Senate Finance and Taxation Committee, Democrat Hank Sanders of Selma, presented the revised budget to his committee Tuesday morning. Sanders hopes to get the Senate to consider it Tuesday afternoon.
The proposed $6.2 billion budget for the next school year is $418 million larger than this year's prorated budget. That's due to $513 million in federal stimulus funding.
State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton says he's hopeful the proposed budget will save all current jobs in K-12 schools, except in school systems with declining enrollment.
