Tuscaloosa, AL – Conservation officials have set dates to open the Forever Wild Land Trust's Sipsey River Swamp Recreation Area and Nature Preserve for public recreation.
The preserve in Tuscaloosa County near Buhl, off State Highway 82, consists of over 3,000 acres of forest along the Sipsey River.
Open Woods Weeks are set for May 1-10, June 5-14, July 3-12, Aug. 7-16, Sept. 4-13 and Oct. 2-11. During these dates, the main gate will open on Friday at 4 p.m., stay open through the following week, and close on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Canoeing, birding, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife photography are welcome on these dates. Hiking, bicycle riding and horseback riding are discouraged due to increased vehicular traffic.
