Florence, AL – Authorities in north Alabama are watching river levels as the Tennessee River reaches flood stage after weekend storms drenched the area with rainfall.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is moving 1 million gallons of water through the agency's dam system every second to limit any flood damage.
TVA spokesman Gil Frances said Monday that officials are also preparing for when the Mississippi River crests next week because of heavy rainfall. Through tributaries, waters of the Mississippi connect with the Tennessee River watershed.
Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency Director George Grabryan said some local roads closed temporarily following more than 2 inches of weekend rainfall.
