Flooding Slows Action In Ala. Legislature

Montgomery, AL – Heavy rains and flooding have slowed the wheels of state government in Montgomery as rising water around the Statehouse delayed action in the Alabama Legislature.

The Alabama House delayed the start of its session Thursday because of flooding in areas around the buildinhg where lawmakers and staff park. The House came into session briefly at about 10:45 a.m. and then went into recess when Speaker Seth Hammett said flooding on lower floors was forcing power to be turned off in the building.

The Senate met briefly Thursday morning and then went into recess so senators could check on their cars. More than a dozen cars were flooded in a lot on the side of the Statehouse.
