Montgomery, AL – Members of the State Board of Education have voted to make the process of evaluating Alabama's teachers more streamlined.
They also hope the changes will be more effective by clearing up time for administrators to spend talking with their teachers instead of doing paperwork and tedious observations.
The old system required administrators to record verbatim what teachers said and did while they were being observed in their classes.
That will not be required in the new process approved by the board Thursday, and other time-consuming paperwork has also been eliminated.
Tommy Bice, deputy superintendent of education instructional services, oversaw development of the new system and estimates it shaves about six hours off the old process.
