Bedford Says He Won't Enter Ala. Governor Race

Montgomery, AL – State Sen. Roger Bedford says he will not be a candidate for governor of Alabama next year.

The 52-year-old Bedford of Russllville had said he was considering entering the race for the Democratic Party nomination for governor.

Bedford said in a statement Monday that after consulting with family members, he had decided to seek re-election to his northwest Alabama Senate seat.

Bedford is serving his sixth term in the Senate and is chairman of the Senate committee that prepares the budget that funds most non-education state services. He said Monday he feels he can best serve the state in that position.
