Siegelman Seeks To Delay New Sentencing Hearing

Montgomery, AL – Attorneys for former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman have asked a federal appeals court to delay returning his case to Montgomery for resentencing.

Siegelman's attorneys on Monday filed a motion for a delay with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld five and threw out two of the charges he was convicted of in a corruption case.

Siegelman's chief attorney, Vince Kilborn, said he wants the appellate court to wait until the U.S. Supreme Court decides if it will consider Siegelman's appeal.

Siegelman has been out of federal prison on an appeal bond for more than a year. By granting the motion, the 11th Circuit would allow him to remain out of prison until the Supreme Court acts.
