Ala. U.S. House Delegation Says Climate Bill Would Hurt State Economy

Montgomery, AL – All seven members of Alabama's U.S. House delegation have written a letter saying the proposed climate bill would hurt the state's economy.

Republicans Spencer Bachus, Robert Aderholt, Jo Bonner and Mike Rogers signed the letter along with Democrats Artur Davis, Bobby Bright and Parker Griffith. The letter went to leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is working on the proposed American Clean Energy and Security Act.

The seven said that states like Alabama that don't meet renewable energy standards will be forced to purchase fuel credits. They say that could amount to $300 million annually in additional charges for customers of Alabama Power Co. by 2020.
