Montgomery, AL – Democratic state Rep. Alvin Holmes of Montgomery will serve as acting chairman of the Legislature's Contract Review Committee until panel members can elect a new chairman.
The former chairman, Democratic Rep. Mark Keahey of Grove Hill, gave up his seat on the committee this week when he was elected to the state senate in a special election. The committee which reviews state contracts consists of four senators and four House members.
Holmes presided over Thursday's committee meeting and said House Speaker Seth Hammett will appoint a replacement for Keahey on the panel.
Holmes said the committee will then appoint a House member to serve as chairman. The chairman's position rotates between the House and the Senate every four years.
