Morgan County Makes $609,000 Tax Repayment

By Associated Press

Morgan County AL – The Morgan County Commission has settled a lawsuit by returning $609,000 to Solutia Inc. for overpaid sales tax spanning nine years.
The commission went into executive session to discuss pending litigation before authorizing Chairman John Glasscock and County Attorney Bill Shinn to settle it.
Before going into executive session, The (Decatur) Daily told commissioners they should not negotiate a settlement with taxpayers' money behind closed doors
The commission met for about 15 minutes and told the newspaper they did not negotiate the settlement, just read a resolution authorizing the settlement.
The agreement is to pay Solutia $52,414.46 per month for 12 months until Solutia's overpayment is satisfied.
