Huntsville, AL – Gov. Bob Riley has appointed four new members to the Alabama A&M University board of trustees in hopes of resolving the school's problems.
Riley's board appointments are the Rev. D. Tom Bell Jr. of Huntsville; Birmingham attorney Lucien B. Blankenship; Norman D. Hill, vice president of Volkert and Associates in Mobile; and Odysseus M. Lanier, founding partner of McConnell Jones Lanier and Murphy, a Houston-based accounting and consulting firm.
Riley said Thursday he hoped the board could resolve the school's problems, which include financial irregularities, probation imposed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the failure of the board to meet to approve a budget and hire a new president.
