State Launches Training Ground for Shipyard Workers

By Associated Press

Mobile, AL – Gov. Bob Riley and others are launching construction of a worker training center in Mobile for Alabama's growing maritime industries.

Riley, Mobile Mayor Sam Jones and other officials are scheduled to attend the ceremony Monday morning on Pinto Island in Mobile.

Riley said Alabama's Maritime Science Center will allow multiple shipbuilding companies to customize worker training while allowing Alabama to streamline and enhance the state's workforce development efforts.

A similar facility recently opened in Ozark to train aviation workers, and a robotics technology training center is under construction in north Alabama.
