Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley says he will limit a special session of the Alabama Legislature to only Jefferson County's financial problems.
Riley said Tuesday he will call a special session quickly once Jefferson County legislators agree on a plan to address the county's budget crisis. Riley said he will act swiftly because county officials expect to run out of money to make payroll in late August.
Riley has talked about reintroducing some of his ethics proposals that have failed in previous legislative sessions, but he says that issue will wait until the 2010 regular session. Riley said he wants a special session to focus solely on solving Jefferson County's problems. He said that's critical because Alabama's most populous county can't lose essential programs.
