Driver's License Fee To Go Up 50 Cents On Monday

Montgomery, AL – It's about to cost an extra 50 cents to obtain a new Alabama driver's license or to renew an old one.

The cost of a driver's license and a non-driver's identification card in Alabama goes from $23 to $23.50 beginning Monday. A bill approved by the Legislature in May also adds 50 cents to the cost of a learner's permit and licenses to operate commercial vehicles, school buses and motorcycles.

The licenses have to be renewed every four years.

The added 50 cents will go to the Alabama Citizenship Trust Fund, which provides funding for the American Village historical park and a national veterans cemetery in Montevallo.
