ASU Trustees Approve 21.8 Percent Tuition Increase

Montgomery, AL – Students at Alabama State University will be facing the biggest tuition hike announced among the state's largest schools so far when they return in the fall.

Trustees at ASU have approved a 21.8 percent increase in tuition, meaning students will pay an additional $504 per semester.

University spokesman Kenneth Mullinax said officials were unavailable for comment Thursday. They have said previously that hikes were necessary because of losses in state funding.

That increase is double the 9.4 percent hike that was approved at the University of Alabama and triple Auburn's 5.7 percent increase for this fall.

A semester at ASU now costs $2,808 for in-state residents and $5,616 for out of state students.
