UA Coach Saban Says It's Fortunate Wounded Player Not Worse

Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabama coach Nick Saban says it's fortunate that a Crimson Tide football player wasn't hurt worse when he was shot during an apparent robbery attempt.

Saban said Tuesday the team is concerned with the recovery of Brandon Deaderick, not about when the defensive end will return to football.

Deaderick was shot in the arm during what Tuscaloosa police describe as a robbery attempt at an off-campus apartment on Monday night. He's hospitalized in a private room in good condition.

Deaderick is expected to have a major role on defense during the upcoming season for the fifth-ranked Crimson Tide. Last year, he had four sacks in 14 starts.
