Tuscaloosa, AL – Firefighters are slowly gaining ground in Southern California, where massive blazes continue just north of Los Angeles. A team of seven disaster response officials from Alabama is preparing to head home after spending a week assisting local firefighters and learning new ways to combat wildfires in the Deep South.

David Thornburg is a Development Manager with the Alabama Fire College. He joins Morning Edition host Brandon Hollingsworth from the site of the "Station Fire" in northern Los Angeles County. Since the fire exploded August 26, it has burned more than 150-thousand acres.
