Ala. Schools Close With Cold, Snow Threat

Huntsville, AL – Thousands of north Alabama schoolchildren are getting a break from classes because of the threat of winter weather.

Numerous city and county school systems have announced they will shut down Thursday, Friday or both because of the possibility of snow and dangerously cold temperatures.

Schools as far south as central Alabama are opening late because of the weather.

Also Alabama A and M will open at ten in the morning, Northeast Alabama Community College will be closed Thursday and Friday, and the University of Alabama is asking non essential employees to stay home tomorrow.

Forecasters say north Alabama should begin getting snow by daybreak Thursday, and accumulations of as much as 2 inches are possible.
